Jaime Reid
Jaime Reid, born in Toronto, Canada, is a well-established ballet dancer, and teacher. Jaime has a Master’s Degree in Dance Science from the University of Bern as well as having completed her Yoga teacher training certification in India in five different styles of yoga. She has taught internationally at institutions as well as privately in Germany, Australia, Canada and Switzerland. Jaime is an advocate for healthy dancers and specializes in injury prevention.
As a dancer, Jaime is currently freelancing in Los Angeles, as well as teaching at Debbie Allen Dance Academy. She was previously working as a freelance artist in Berlin, Germany and has performed with several companies including; Semperoper Dresden, German TV Ballet, Staatstheater Braunschweig, and Friedrichstadt Palast. She has also worked with Bejart Ballet Lausanne in 2015 and performed several soloist roles in productions such as; Ballet for Life and Barocco.
Previously, Jaime was invited to join Eifman Ballet of Saint Petersburg as the first Canadian and black dancer in a Russian ballet company, in 2014. She danced in Boris Eifman’s productions of Anna Karenina, Karamazov Brothers, Onegin and Rodin. Jaime was also part of the CATS musical production in Toronto performing the role of Cassandra in 2013 for which the ensemble was nominated for a Dora Award.
She started her early dance training at Durham Dance Centre where she studied, classical, modern, jazz, acrobatics, tap and musical theatre before moving to the Academy of Ballet and Jazz the school of Canadian Ballet Theatre, under the direction of Nadia Veselova-Tencer.
Jaime performed soloist roles in the Nutcracker, Swan Lake, La Bayadere, Don Quixote as well as contemporary pieces choreographed for her.
She was a finalist at YAGP in New York receiving a Silver Medal and attended the American Ballet Theatre summer intensive for 4 years. In addition to this, Jaimereceived a bronze medal at the Stars of the 21st Century Ballet competition in 2013. Jaime is currently also on the judging panel for the Youth America Grand Prix competition as well as teaching masterclasses to the competitors.
